Les femmes qui bénéficient d’une radiothérapie dans la région pelvienne, lorsque le vagin se situe dans le champ d’irradiation, présentent un risque réel de synéchies vaginales. Ces synéchies peuvent entraîner un rétrécissement et/ou un raccourcissement du vagin. Bien que ces modifications ne soient pas douloureuses ou nocives en soi, elles peuvent avoir des conséquences importantes sur la fonction sexuelle et sur la réalisation d’un examen gynécologique. Lors du congrès de la VVRO en mars 2026, Hilde Toelen, psychologue clinicienne et sexologue à l’UZ Leuven, a expliqué comment ces effets secondaires peuvent être prévenus et comment les patientes peuvent être accompagnées de manière optimale.
