Seule une faible proportion des patients atteints d’un cancer du sein sont des hommes. Les hommes atteints d’un cancer du sein évoluent donc dans un univers largement « féminin », ce qui s’accompagne souvent de honte. Dans la pratique, ils sont parfois confrontés à un manque de connaissances de la part des professionnels de santé. Lors du congrès de la VVRO en mars 2026, l’infirmière spécialisée Rani Vanhoudt (UZ Leuven) a abordé l’accompagnement des hommes atteints d’un cancer du sein. Elle y a évoqué les tabous, présenté les expériences de patients et donné des conseils concrets aux professionnels de santé.
